Synopsis -

My Review
I want to point out first how much I love the cover of this book. It is beautiful, dark and unique. Like the story. A Minor Magic took me on a thrilling ride and never let me go. Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down. I was immediately captured by the world that Justin created. It isn't a place I would ever want to see, but the characters adapting to this world was remarkably written. I loved the characters in this book. Skylar is a very smart girl. Although she seems weak, she is not. She never gives up and always finds strength to face the obstacles set before her. She didn't even know she possessed magic until she accidentally killed her dog. When it lunged at her, flames shot out of her hands. That was a turning point for her. She faced so many horrible events after that but stayed strong until she was saved. I loved that about her. She was no damsel in distress. I also loved the secondary characters in the story.
A Minor Magic is full of action and mystery. There is also a little romance. Being a romance junkie, I wish that there was more, but still loved it. Maybe in the sequel, I will get to see more. I also loved how this book was about self-discovery. On the journey Skylar learns about the magic she possesses and where she comes from. This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. There were so many twists and turns that I was left breathless. This was a fantastic book and I can't wait to read the sequel to see what trials and tribulations these characters face again. Great job Justin!!! I highly recommend this book!!!!

"Oh my Lord, girl," a man said behind her. "What did you do?"
Skylar whirled around, her eyes widening in guilt even though she didn't understand what had happened, or how. "Henry, he jumped at me! I don't know why he did it, and I tried to stop him, but..." She fell silent, her thoughts too scrambled to know what more to say. Buster was a dog she'd loved and cared for ever since coming to live on the farm years ago, and without warning, he had attacked her. When she'd held her hands up to ward him off, blue fire had erupted from them and consumed him as though it was a living, ravenous thing. Nothing like that had ever happened to her before, and she couldn't rightly explain what she didn't understand.
