Synopsis

There are a few things Grace Anderson knows for sure. One is that nothing will ever come between her and her best friend, Kya Kessler. They have a pact. Buds Before Studs. Sisters Before Misters. But in the summer before senior year, life throws out challenges they never expected. And suddenly the person who's always been there starts to need the favor returned. Grace and Kya are forced to question how much a best friend can forgive. And the answer is not what they expected.

My Review

How I Lost you was an empowering read that definitely moved me to tears.  This is the first book that I have read of Janet's and it won't be the last.  I am definitely grabbing her other books after this one.  This story is beautifully written and well descriptive.  I was able to picture everything going on in the story to the point that I was drawn into the story.  I felt as if I was right there along with the characters and experiencing everything they were.  How I Lost You is a book that anyone can relate to.  We all have had those best friends that we would tell anything to, share everything with.  That is what I loved most about this story.  How realistic and moving it was.  I was able to feel the raw emotion that each and every character possessed.

I really adored the characters in this story.  Grace and Kya are best friends and have always been best friends.  They always put their friendship before anything else.  When a tragedy strikes, we start watching the friendship change.  The girls start drifting apart.  They start questioning what their relationship to each other really means.  James was another character that I loved to read about.  When I realized what he has went through and his mother, I really felt for him.  He is such a good friend to Grace and Kya even though he was going through so much.  I also loved the relationship between Grace and Levi.  I am a romance junkie so I was really rooting for them.  I loved the fact that their relationship wasn't rushed.  It started off slow and I got to watch it slowly grow throughout the story.

How I Lost you is a riveting story that focuses on friendship, love and family.  I was so enthralled with this story that I could not put this book down.  I had to know how the story was going to end.  Like I said, these characters felt very real so I had to know what happened with them.  This story is a MUST read everyone!!!!  It is a book that I will definitely reread.

Janet lives near the Canadian Rockies with her husband and son and a little dog named Bruce. She does not live in an Igloo or play hockey, but she does love maple syrup and says “eh” a lot.

Janet only gives 5 stars to the books she reviews because she is an author herself and knows that no book can appeal to everyone, but like a child, it is very special to the creator.

I'M NOT HER was published by Sourcebooks Teen Fire in May 2011.

IF I TELL released Oct 1, 2011 from Sourcebooks Teen Fire.

WHO I KISSED Sourcebooks Fire 2012.

Janet's work will also appear in the THE FIRST TIME anthology, DEAR TEEN ME anthology and WHO DONE IT anthology.
