Goodreads Synopsis
Though the Serbian pack has been brought to heel thanks to the downfall of their Alpha, the war is far from over.
Desdemona, a witch of unfathomable power, has escaped the wolves’ wrath, but she will not go quietly into the night. She takes refuge in a place where even the smallest sliver of light does not dare to enter. Though she had to flee, she has not given up on the treasure she wishes to acquire. Her depravity knows no bounds; she's even willing to search for the one who can assist her in opening a Veil that has not been opened in millennia – with good reason: the danger is incalculable.
Meanwhile, there are major changes rippling through the Romanian Grey wolves. Decebel has become Alpha to the Serbian pack in an effort to begin to unite the Canis lupis species. Their numbers are dwindling in the wake of the shortage of true mates and lack of offspring. The wolves are beginning to lose faith and darkness seems to be crashing in on them from all sides. But the winds of change are blowing, changes that will alter the future of not only the Canis lupis, but of another ancient race as well.
Amidst all of this, Sally is continuing to come to terms with her relationship with the playful, charming, flirty, unbelievably handsome bartender – who happens to be a member of the Romanian pack.
If all that weren’t enough, the Fates have decided to pay a little visit to Jen. It’s time to collect. She cheated the Fates of a life, her life. Now they want what they are due. The problem? It’s more than Jen is willing to pay.
Yes, the war is indeed far from over. Bargains will be struck, declarations will be made, sacrifices will be given, love will be tested, and trust will be questioned as evil makes its stand against them all.
My Review
Quinn does it again!!! This series just keeps getting better and better. Beyond the Veil blew me away. I was constantly shocked and surprised throughout the whole book. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. There are so many things that happened in this book that I didn't see coming. I have to say that The Grey Wolf series is one of my favorite series out there.
At the beginning of the story, Sally and Costin get their marks. Costin agrees to take it slow since this is all new to her and his human. But of course, Costin becomes very possessive of her just like the other wolves with their mates. Healers the are unbonded become like a magnet to wolves. They complete the blood rites and will do the ceremony and wedding at a later time I loved watching their relationship grow into something more. Sally becomes the Healer for the Serbian pack which means she gets to live with Jen. I can't help loving Costin. He has that funny personality and the dimple of course.
Jen still provokes the wolf in Decebel. She keeps him on her toes. Decebel wouldn't have her any other way though. Decebel is now Alpha of the Siberian pack so Jen has to learn what it means for her to be an Alpha. In a dream, Jen is visited by the Fates. They have come to collect what is owed to them. I found out something really shocking about Jen. I had to read it over and over. The Fates stated that they will take a life for a life, and it has to be someone that her souls calls out to. Jen becomes very upset and blocks Decebel for awhile. She doesn't want him to leave her. But Decebel is wonderful and supportive. He says he would protect her and not let the Fates do what they planned to do.
Jaque goes with the other group fot their mission. She hates being separated from Sally and Jen. Fane is always there letting her know everything is going to be okay. Jaque is lured into the water and Fane believes she is drowning. He immediately jumps in to rescue her and can't reach her. He immediately taken the the In Between. Jaque is being held unconscious by something dark.
On their journey to stop the witch, they learn so many new things, and so many old things change. The Great Luna visits and finally gives the wolves the hope they need. It is time for the supernaturals to align together and fight the witch. Since the Fae stay on their side of the veil and will do nothing to help, she makes them mates to the Canis Lupis So two wolves also find their mates in this book. I was so happy for these two. I was hoping that would happen to them.
There are other shocks and surprises in this book that has nothing to do with the characters listed above. Talk about a cliffhanger. I want to read the next book now. I am hoping we finally get to see the females become strong and save their males. They may be the ones battling the witch to save their mates. Love it!!!!
This book was beautifully written. I loved everything about it. I felt like I was there with the characters the entire time. The characters have grown on me throughout the series. They have become like family to me. I am always rooting for them. The characters grow throughout the series and that is what captures me in a book. Great job Quinn!!!!
Where's the red number we're supposed to collect for the drawing at the end??
