Beyond the Veil (Review )

Goodreads Synopsis

Though the Serbian pack has been brought to heel thanks to the downfall of their Alpha, the war is far from over.
Desdemona, a witch of unfathomable power, has escaped the wolves’ wrath, but she will not go quietly into the night. She takes refuge in a place where even the smallest sliver of light does not dare to enter. Though she had to flee, she has not given up on the treasure she wishes to acquire. Her depravity knows no bounds; she's even willing to search for the one who can assist her in opening a Veil that has not been opened in millennia – with good reason: the danger is incalculable.

Meanwhile, there are major changes rippling through the Romanian Grey wolves. Decebel has become Alpha to the Serbian pack in an effort to begin to unite the Canis lupis species. Their numbers are dwindling in the wake of the shortage of true mates and lack of offspring. The wolves are beginning to lose faith and darkness seems to be crashing in on them from all sides. But the winds of change are blowing, changes that will alter the future of not only the Canis lupis, but of another ancient race as well.
Amidst all of this, Sally is continuing to come to terms with her relationship with the playful, charming, flirty, unbelievably handsome bartender – who happens to be a member of the Romanian pack.
If all that weren’t enough, the Fates have decided to pay a little visit to Jen. It’s time to collect. She cheated the Fates of a life, her life. Now they want what they are due. The problem? It’s more than Jen is willing to pay.
Yes, the war is indeed far from over. Bargains will be struck, declarations will be made, sacrifices will be given, love will be tested, and trust will be questioned as evil makes its stand against them all.

Interview with Decebel

1. What did it feel like to find your mate?
There are no words to describe what it’s like to finally have light fill your dark world.

2. Why did you fight the pull between the two of you?

Simply put- I was terrified. Not just because Jennifer is terrifying but because I knew what it would mean if she were indeed my mate. She would be in my care. Her health, safety, happiness all of those things would fall to me. I am glad that I am the man that gets to provide them for her, but the fear of failure is one that can be difficult for any man to face.

3. Name one word you would use to describe Jennifer.

Mine *chuckles* I just had to say that because I knew it would tick her off. One word, hmm, Loyal, without a doubt she is the most loyal person I have ever met.

4. How do you truly feel about Jennifer's attitude and sarcasm? let's face it, she never listens to you.

*Grins* If she were anyone else I would be bored. She drives me insane, and she knows she does, but I wouldn’t have her any other way.

5. If you can change one thing about Jennifer, what would it be and why?

Cheesy as it may sound and you might roll your eyes, I wouldn’t change anything about her.

(Jen just walked in, Decebel smiles and winks at her)

Jen- Don’t let him fool you, he would change my innate desire to be de-robed all the time.

(Decebel shakes his head with a small chuckle and then whispers in her ear as he pulls her onto his lap. Jen slaps his shoulder)

Jen-Want me to tell them what you just said?

Dec- Jen *her name is a warning growl* (Jen just shrugs innocently)

6. Describe how you felt when Jennifer died?

(Jen lays her head on his shoulder and he draws her closer to him as he speaks)

I felt as if all the oxygen had been taken from my lungs and then all the air taken from the room. I couldn’t breathe. No matter how I tried I was suffocating. The idea of a world without Jennifer is beyond painful, the reality of it is a hell like no other.

7. What was it like to lose your memory of your mate?

A kind of lonely that is soul deep because even though I had no memory of her, my soul did and my wolf did. I knew something in me was missing.

(Jen perks up) I have put you through all kinds of hell haven’t I?

Dec smiles- Yes love, you have.

Jen- Winks mischievously,- Well, you’ve been thoroughly warned.

Dec chuckles at her- So I have.

8. Jennifer enjoys provoking the wolf in you. How do you feel about that? Is it a challenge?

It makes me feel alive but tense. I think it’s something that I need, although sometimes I think she could pick better moments to pull her stunts.

*Jen glares at him.*

9. How did it feel to see Jennifer shift for the first time?

That is something too private to discuss, I am sorry.

*Dec looks down at Jen in his lap and brushes the hair back from her face*

Jen- Feeling sentimental today (she murmurs to him)

*he nods and kisses her gently on the forehead*

10. Can you describe to us what her wolf looks like?

She’s solid grey, beautiful with a star on her muzzle. She’s smaller than I am, but she’s strong and moves with amazing agility and speed. She’s lovely.

11. How do you feel about becoming Alpha of a new pack?

It feels right, like it was the next step of where I’m supposed to be.

12. How do you deal with Jennifer's, Jaque's and Sally's slang? Do you even understand it half the time?

When the three musketeers are together I typically tune them out. *Decebel makes an umf sound as Jen smacks his chest*

13. I think we all want to know this, boxers or briefs?

*full abdominal laugh from both Jen and Dec*

Jen- Hells to the yeah baby! Man I love you gals. *she looks at Decebel waiting for him to compose himself* well go on baby tell’em all about your undies.

*Dec actually blushes* he clears his throat* - Boxers

*Jen does a fist pump in the air* That totally made my day. Dec, wait til I tell the girls you had to discuss your panties in the interview.

*Dec growls* I don’t wear panties Jennifer.

*Jen Laughs* Oh man what an image that creates, thanks babe.

*Dec shakes his head at her*

14. What was your life like before you met Jennifer?
Dark, quiet, lifeless.

15. Can you describe to us what it feels like to live in a pack?

There is a sense of completeness in the pack. You are a family, even though not all by blood, it’s still a family and to live connected to one another is right. It keeps us strong, helps us support and care for one another. It’s a very special and unique life.

*Jen and Dec stand and shake my hand to tell me good bye. I watch as they leave. Jen hops on Decebel’s back for a piggy back and Decebel with a quiet gleam in his eye and small smile on his lips, carries her out.*

On the last stop, everyone will total their numbers that they collected.  Make sure the numbers that are collected are RED.
