Synopsis
Is love stronger than race?
The world is changing as we know it, the human race is dwindling, but so are the angels. In order to preserve their bloodlines they have bred with humans, creating a new race called Nephilim. But there is one race that is more endangered than humans or Seraphim, Archangels.
As most people believe the Archangels have become extinct, rumours surface of a Legend; that a baby was born out of flame, the offspring of an archangel.
Dyston Blackbell is tasked to find and protect this child. He sends her strange dreams in hope that she will find him. When he discovers that she has enrolled at his family’s angel academy in Melbourne, he will do anything to protect Scarlett. But when he finds himself falling for her the Heavenly realm rejects him thus turning his wings black.
But 21-year-old Scarlett Porter realises that being half Archangel has some advantages. She has developed a unique trait, one that marks her as an Archangel. Will she keep it to herself or use it to fight back?
When an old enemy resurfaces, The Lucifites, Scarlett discovers that Dyston’s older brother Lakyn is at the helm of their sinister plans; to destroy the Nephilim race or use Scarlett for their own selfish purposes when they find out who she really is.
And when Lakyn discovers that Scarlett had only seduced him to rescue Dyston from his prison in the Realm of Light, it sends him on a journey of self-discovery and destruction. One that sees him venturing farther off course than his father would like. Will he choose a new life of love or his old life of darkness?
Review
The Chronicles of Fire and Ice was a fantastic story with a unique twist on angel lore. I have always loved angel stories and was pulled in from the start with this book. It took me on an amazing adventure with some twists and surprises. I adored the characters in this story, especially the Blackbell brothers. One is good and one is bad.
Humans and angels are both going extinct. It is even believed that the archangels are extinct as well. There is a prophecy that says a child will be born out of flame from a archangel and that child will save the world. Dyston's job was to find her. Not only did he find her, but he hid her and protected her. He fell in love in love with her. I loved Dyston. He really did do anything and everything for her. Scarlett has an instant connection with Dyston Blackbell. They have had dreams of each other only they weren't just dreams. Scarlett's powers start coming earlier than what they are supposed to. Once everyone knows who she truly is, a lot of things changes. She is kidnapped for her tears and tried to be killed. When she fell back to Earth, everything was destroyed and a lot of truths came out. What side everyone was on. The only thing that Scarlett did that I thought was really stupid is what she did with Lakyn to get Dyston wrong. That is just wrong in so many ways. She could have found another way. She didn't even try. Lakyn is bad and fighting for the wrong team. But why? He has suffered so much heartache, but soon starts to see the light. I am wondering if Lakyn will end up choosing the right side.
Even though I enjoyed the story, I did have a few minor issues with it. The story seemed to be very rushed to me. Some things happened so fast I was utterly confused. I also felt as if some key points were missing. I would be reading and wondering when this event happened so I would go back and reread and it wouldn't be there. There are several huge twists and turns in this book that completely left me shell-shocked.
The Chronicles of Fire and Ice was a fun, unique story that definitely left me wanting more. I can't wait to start on the second book and see what other powers Scarlett has and what her journey entails. I know this series will continually get better and better so I can't wait to see where it goes next. There are several huge twists and turns in this book that completely left me shell-shocked. Fantastic start to a great new series!!!
Hey, this synopsis is from the old first edition (crappy edited version). The new one should be up everywhere. Thank you for your review though
