Goodreads Synopsis

Isabella Reed is a fast-track twenty one year old from a small Florida town. She flees to the Land of Enchantment, Albuquerque, NM, where the beautiful painted skies go on forever and hold hope for a fresh start.
She meets Logan Hayes, a sexy guide who has been hired to show her all the sights of her new city. He shows her much more than that. Something Paranormal happens to Isabella that she is unaware of when touring the Petroglyphs and her life takes a downward spiral into a supernatural captivity that no one will believe except for Logan. He vows to protect her with his life after seeing for himself.

My Review

After a divorce with her high school sweetheart, Isabella flees to Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Her aunt is allowing her to stay the rest of her life if Isabella loves it.  Isabella loves the place and feels at home immediately.  Logan, the care taker, shows up to introduce himself and and lets her know that her aunt paid him to be her tour guide for a week.  So Logan begins showing her around town, and both Isabella and Logan can't stop thinking about each other.  They fall hard and quick for each other.  On the third day, Isabella starts seeing weird things at her house.  Lights start going off, stuff getting moved, chills, hearing her name called and so on.  She has people check the house and nothing.  When she tells Logan, he wants to protect her.  Logan decides to stay with Isabella and he witnesses it all for himself.  They get in contact with Cheveyo, a Spirit Warrior, to try to solve the problem.  Why all of a sudden did Isabella have a ghost in her house?  Does the spirit have a message or does it intend on hurting them?

Under a Painted Sky was a very enjoyable story.  I read this book in one sitting.  Let's just say it kept me on the edge of my seat.  I really wanted to know what was up with the spirit.  I loved the vivid descriptions that Jenna used to describe the places they visited, the foods they tasted, the feelings they felt.  I felt as if I was on the trip with them experiencing everything they did.

I loved the characters in this story.  Even though they said things that I didn't believe, I was still able to connect with them. Logan is a sweetheart!!!  He is all about living life to the fullest.  I love how guys become the protectors so it was very sweet how he kept Isabella safe.  Isabella was a great character too.   She was easy to relate too.  I would have acted the same way she did if all that creepy stuff was happening.  I probably would have passed out.  I would not have stayed in that house by myself after that though.  I loved how she faced her fears at the end, and became stronger because of it. Isahella's aunt was right, because they are a match made in heaven.  I loved Cheveyo.  I can't wait to see more of him in the next book.  He has to get his happy ending too.

I really did enjoy the story, but there were a couple things that I didn't like.  I had a lot of trouble with the dialogue.  A lot of times it felt forced and was very repetitive.  I also couldn't picture 21 years old talking like that.  It felt like a teenager instead of an adult was talking the whole time.  That was the big issue I had with the story.  I also wish there was a little more paranormal in the book since it was about spirits.  That was the part I loved about the book.  I wanted more.  The love story I had trouble with too, because they fell in love too  quickly.  I am a romance junkie so that is usually my favorite part out of a book.  I love to see relationships grow and develop, but this was immediate.  I get they really liked each other immediately, but the whole saying I Love You, and the stuff they said to each other just didn't seem real to me.

I loved the ending of the book after finding out what was really going on.  I never got that WOW factor, but it was an amazing read.   This was a great debut from Jenna roads.  I can't wait to see where she takes us with the sequel, Through the Eyes of Love.

Interview with Jenna Roads!!!!

1.  What was your favorite part about writing this book?
Deciding on and coming up with the plot.

2.  Can you tell us a little about your writing process and what type of research went into this story?
I first came up with the idea and then started building the characters and the rest of the things kind of just evolved and took over. I had to research to make sure I remembered correctly some of the places and times of business and so on.
3.  If you could trade places with one character in your book, who would it be and why?
It would be Isabella's aunt Carol. I would love to travel the world with the one I love.

4.Who made the cover of your book?
I did actually.

5.  How many books are there going to be in this series?
I intend to have 3 books at this point.

6.  Can you give us a little sneak peak as to what the next book is about?

Through The Eyes of Love : The love between Isabella and Logan intensifies. Isabella, Logan and Cheveyo unite in their quest to seek out others who have become prisoners of fear after visiting the Petroglyphs. They become captivated by a little boy. Having to see things through the eyes of a child changes everything. Will they unveil the clandestine significance of the spirit who chose the child in time?

7.  How did you come up with this story as a whole?
I guess I have always been intrigued by things not always being the way we imagine them in our mind. Even something as simple as you meet a happy looking person and you assume their life is perfect and then you find out they were the one carrying the heaviest burden. After visiting the Petroglyphs for myself I thought about all of the images on the stone and all the different people and what they may have gone through and it was overwhelming how many stories could come out of there.  I wanted to write a paranormal romance story and the place immediately came to mind.

8.  What are you currently working on or have planned for the future?
I am currently working on 'Through The Eyes of Love' which is the second book in the Spirit Warrior Series.

9.  Can you give us a little more insight into the whole spirit warriors?  What they will be facing and so on?
There will be turmoil in the almost instant love saga of Isabella and Logan. They will run into some glitches with them trying to seek out others who have been tormented.
I may or may not let Cheveyo find someone special and more characters will be introduced. It will be unique with a child in the mix.

10. What is your favorite book to read of all time?
I could never pick a favorite of all time. There are just too many choices.
One of my favorite love sagas would be 'The Notebook' by Nicholas Sparks and favorite paranormal romance would be 'Collide' by Shelly Crane.
