Book Description:
When Lauren Monroe first laid eyes on Michael Delaney back in high school, she had every reason to stay away from him; within minutes of their first encounter, his volatile actions confirmed his notorious reputation. But Lauren saw something in him that caused her to question his bad-boy persona, and against her better judgment, she took a chance. She had no way of knowing that the unlikely friendship they formed would become so important to her.

Or that it would end so painfully.

Eight years later, when Lauren begins her new job at Learn and Grow Day Care, Michael is the last person she expects to see. Refusing to revisit the hurt and confusion of their past, Lauren vows to keep her distance from him. But staying away from Michael proves to be more difficult than she thought, despite her lingering grief and her instincts for self-preservation.

As Lauren and Michael recall the friendship that changed them forever and the events that tore them apart, will they finally be able to heal? Or will the ghosts of Michael’s past prove to be too much to overcome?

My Review

Back to You by Priscilla Glenn was an emotional story about love and redemption.  This story was beautifully written and captivated me from beginning to end.  I loved how the story flops between the past and present.  I felt more connected to the characters and was able to understand why they were the way were by getting that extra inside scoop.

The story starts off with Lauren getting a job at Learn and Grow Day Care while she works on a masters in child psychology.  She was very excited about getting this job.  On her first day of work, Lauren walks in her room and a little girl with her father are waiting.  Lauren realizes that this man was her best friend that tore her heart into pieces eight years ago.  She decided not to get too close again so she keeps him at an arm's length keeping everything professional.  Only Michael didn't want that.  He wanted his best friend back.  Will Lauren be able to let go of the past and forgive the man who broke her heart?

I loved all the characters in this story.  They were very easy to relate to.  Lauren was very strong and faced things head on.  The only time she seemed vulnerable was when Michael was around.  After what Michael did eight years ago, she wouldn't let a guy get too close to her.  I really liked Adam, but I couldn't help rooting for Lauren and Adam.  With their history together, I really wanted them to work it out.  I also loved seeing Lauren slowly become a mom to Erin.

Michael never thought her would see Lauren again.  Seeing her for the first time brought everything back.  He really wanted his best friend back and was hoping that one day Lauren would forgive him.  Eight years ago, everyone called Michael by a different name.  He was known as Del.  The only person he let call him Michael was Lauren.  Red was his nickname for Lauren.  He was considered one of those bad boys.  He had such a hard life that and never felt truly loved.  Lauren was there for him like no one else and he couldn't help but fall for the girl he couldn't have.  But Michael had a past and never thought he deserved her.  I couldn't believe how he was treated by his own family.  There wasn't many scenes with his brother, but I instantly fell in love with him.  His brother is the one that took care of him when no one else would.  When his brother died, he always believed it was his fault.  I hated his parents.

I loved how this book kept me wanting more.  I really wanted to know what happened between them eight years ago that caused such a rift.  The past scenes in this story helped make the story even better.  I loved being able to see them meet for the fist time, become best friends, then fall unconditionally in love with each other.

Priscilla's debut novel was a great read.  Back to You is a book that I will definitely be rereading.  There were so many emotional twists and turns that I couldn't put the book down.  I loved how this story felt so real.  I couldn't help but root for Michael and Lauren.  I was very, very happy with the conclusion of this story.
