Blog Tour: Waterfall by Amber Garr: Review
Title: Waterfall
Author: Amber Garr
Publication: April 22nd, 2014
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Synopsis
The water is gone. The wars have begun.
Clean water is a luxury most can no longer afford. Climate change, industrial sabotage, and greed have turned country against country as each one tries to provide for its citizens. Terrorist groups target desalinization plants and frustrated governments hunt those who work against them. Rationing, sequestering, and patrolling have become routine at a time when there are too many people and not enough resources.
While the world around them disintegrates into chaos, Zach and Vivienne hope that their life in a government-run complex will retain some semblance of normalcy. But when attacks on their water supplies bring war to their sheltered community, they must accept their new fate. Stay and fight or flee and endure—it’s a difficult decision with lasting consequences.
Will they choose what’s safe? Or will they choose to survive?
Review
Waterfall is the prequel to Waterproof. In Waterfall, we get to see the events that led to Zach and Vee becoming deserters. This story was very short, but very enjoyable. In this novella, Zach and Vee are teenagers going to school doing things teenagers do. Nuclear attacks begin and places that store water are being destroyed including the school. Zach and Vee, along with their parents, flee their home and find a government compound to stay. On a supply run, everything changes again and they have to flee. This is where they join forces with the deserters.
What I loved about this novella was the fact that I got to see how Zach and Vee were before the draft started. They were best friends, always protecting each other. Even though they were dating someone else, I got the feeling that there was something else there. I loved how they were always there for each other, leaning on each other. They protected each other no matter what.
I really wish this novella was longer, because now I have so many more questions. I want to know if the compound set them up. I also want to know what happens to Zach and Vee's parents along with Zach's sister. The character development was spot on. Zach and Vee changed big time by the end of this story. I loved seeing Vee get her sword at the end!!!! This novella was beautifully written and had me hooked after the very first page. I did nit want to put this book down. Waterfall definitely had a cliffhanger and it did leave me wanting more. I can't wait to see what Amber has in store next.
