Review
Drowning was a very emotional read that was also packed with a lot of angst. This book was written by two amazing authors, Marni Mann and Gia Riley! I am still trying to figure out who wrote what! I really enjoyed this book. I loved how both characters were escaping something from their past. I felt their their pain and turmoil. Both characters were written so well. I really felt for them. They both had a great life until they trusted the wrong people. But, Clay and Andi showed their strength. They grew so much.
I loved Adrian/Clay. He was an honest and just flat out great guy. He just trusted the wrong people and got wrongfully accused of something he didn't do. And it was so bad that he would go to prison for it. That was why he had to hide. I loved that he was a swimmer. He had it all, the perfect life. The Olympics, everything. Until that one mistake. I loved his passion. He never wanted to give up. At times, he felt like drowning, but he always pulled through. Andi became something to live for. He had to protect her at all costs. Love her with everything he had.
I connected so much with Andi in this story. She fell in love with a guy named Brooks. Once they fell in love, he turned into a complete monster. Andi suffered so much from his hands. There was no escape though. She knew he would always find her. But how much is too much? She finally got to a point and realized that the next time could be the last time. She knew what she had to do. When Clay came into the picture, everything changed for her. He was the one person who could keep her from drowning. He could protect her and teach her how to hide. To be free.
I can't really say that I loved Andi's and Clay's relationship. I really really wanted to, but everything moved so quickly. Way too quickly. These two met on a train that didn't even reach its destination. That few hours together and that was it. It was like they were already madly in love. They couldn't be away from each other. Couldn't live without each other. The way he would touch her and how comfortable they felt together after leaving the hospital was not believable for me. I am not a big fan of the whole insta-love. I love to see relationships grow and develop. And, I really wanted them together. I was so glad with the ending of the story, but I just think it all happened too quickly. Like I said, it just wasn't real or believable. I can't see people feeling those emotions just after a few hours of meeting. I just could not get past that in this story. On how close they were after such a short time.
I loved Andi's relationship with Charlie. I got teary eyed on most of the scenes that involved him. Charlie was a gentle soul. He is one of those special people. I was really hoping to see things change for the better for him. He even said that good people don't get left behind so was hoping for a better outcome for him. Hoping that Adrian and Andi could help him in some way.
Russell became a big part of the story at the end. He was a new character that had a huge impact! I am really hoping to see more of him if there is a second book. Maybe him and Camille together!! I definitely see that happening. Love Russell so much!!
Drowning was an enjoyable read. Even though I am not a fan of the whole insta-love, I still really liked it. I really wish I could have given it a higher rating, but I just had such a hard time connecting with that.
