Manipulation (Shadows #2)
Release Date: January 2013
Paperback/e-book

Summary from Goodreads:

Addison Prince has almost always gotten what she wants.
Dean Courser only wants to find his brother, but it's the one thing he’s failed at... Even with his unusual ability.

Dean and Addison share the gift of Manipulation—a brief touch that forces others to do what they wish. But when they meet and realize their connection, they find more questions than answers. Suddenly Dean is seeing shadows move on their own, and Addison is learning her father’s mysterious group may know more about her abilities than he’s ever let on.

As Dean and Addison second-guess every decision about who they are and why they're wanted, time is running out. With shadows following their every move, they're losing hope they’ll ever get to safety—if such a thing exists.

My Review

Manipulation immediately took me by surprise.  I thought the story was going to be about Micah and Landon, but it wasn't it.  I was introduced to new characters that I immediately loved with new powers.  Manipulation was beautifully written and well thought out.  I love being drawn into a story and actually feel as if i am right there with the characters.  Jolene did a great job with that.  I was immediately hooked after the very fist page of this book as well.  I really did enjoy the first book, but i have to say that Manipulation is even better!!!  I loved how the book switched POVs too.  It is always nice to get that extra inside scoop on what the characters are really thinking and feeling.

When I stared reading this and realized it was about two new characters, I was immediately nervous.  I get so attached to characters that I want to see how their story ends.  I loved Addison and Dean just as much as Micah and Landon.  I can't wait to see how the end of this series comes together.  I wonder if all these characters will end up meeting and work together?  That will be fun and interesting!!

Addison was a fun character to read about.  She is a spoiled brat who always gets what she wants.  She is constantly left alone with her sister which makes it even worse.  I LOVE Dean!!!  Just had to point that out.  Dean gets paired with Addison on a school project and find out that they both have talents.  The same talent.  Through touch, they can manipulate minds.  This becomes a problem later on, because they start questioning each other.  Their feelings grow, but Addison has a hard time believing if her talent is affecting the way Dean feels.  Of course, he constantly reassures her that it isn't.  Dean is a sweetheart.  I would marry him in a heartbeat.

I loved how Addison and Dean took off,  Being on the run makes the story fun and exciting.  The Middle Men make their appearance again in this book , and I was happy that I got to learn more about them, and what they are up to.  In Manipulation, the shadows are still following the characters.  Nothing happens with that though.  I know the shadows are suppose to take them and their powers, but I have yet to see them attempt that.

Manipulation was a great book!!!  I can't wait to read the next book, Seeker!!!  I need that book NOW!!!!  This book was even better than the first.  Great job Jolene!!!!

Here is the cover and synopsis from Goodreads for the 3rd book Seeker!!!  Love it!!!!

"A couple hundred years ago, my gift was considered one of the weaker ones, but with the way The Middle Men has grown, people who can seek out talents the way I can have become imperative. We’re both the collectors of new talent, and police the talent that we’ve already collected. No one else could. Insighters can see us coming, and Manipulators could tell us we don’t want to be there. Shields can slow me down. But Seekers, as Mom puts it, see through all the BS, and do what needs to be done.
We also have to be the best at blocking the talents of everyone else. It’s the perfect job for someone like me—structured and methodical with room for creative hunting.
Seeker. It's what I do best."

Told from the perspective of "the bad guys" Seeker is the final book in The Shadows Trilogy...

About the Author

Jolene kissed a boy on her high school graduation night. One she’d wanted to kiss for a long time. They got married two years later, have built two homes together, survived military deployments, law school, student loan debt, and two children.

Jolene plays the guitar, takes pictures, and loves to hike. She doesn’t like rivers, but loves the ocean. She loves to fly, but gets motion sick. Her ultimate vacation would be to sail through the deserted islands in The Bahamas. Two years ago, she got that wish when her parents retired on a sailboat.

She taught high school French when she was only a few years older than her students, and then taught middle school math with her degree in political science and French.
She spends grocery money on designer fabric, shoes, and books.

Jolene cannot express how many times she wished she could write a whole novel. And now she has. Several times. Life is good.
