Will she become an unwritten footnote in history, or can she trust the magic to lead her back to her one true love?

My Review

This book was simply captivating!!!  I absolutely loved it!!!  I read this book in one sitting. n Once I started it, I couldn't put it down..  S.G. crafted a beautifully written story that was so unlike other books that I have read.  That is what I loved so much about this book.  It's uniqueness and originality.

Heather has always wanted to live at the castle.  Winning the Tournament of Chance will grant any female the title of a Lady. That was Heather's goal.  King chance has never let a commoner win the tournament.  Something mysterious always happened to the female.  Heather had the dragon rebels protecting her without her even knowing it.  When soldiers start attacking her, Heather must leave in disguise.  Will she make it to the tournament and be the first commoner to win? 

I loved every character in this book.  Dane was very swoon-worthy.  I loved how the relationship between Heather and Dane wasn't rushed. I loved watching both characters grow and develop in this story.  They both changed for the better.  Heather was no damsel in distress and that is what I loved about her.  She was able to throw a knife and shoot arrows better than anybody.  Manny was hilarious!!!  He has a great since of humor.  Shimmer was very wise.  He was a great leader to follow.  I was glad Jovander got to meet Heather again after 8 years.  There wasn't a character I didn't like.  Each had something I loved about them.

I am hoping I get to see these characters again in a sequel!!!  Please write a sequel S.G!!!! I really want more of this story. There were so many twists and turns in this story that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.



Interview with S.G. Rogers

1.  What was your favorite aspect on writing Tournament of Chance?

Writing this book really forced me to stretch my creativity in ways I hadn’t done before. I was able to incorporate a lot of settings that are interesting to me, such as volcanic lava tubes, mausoleums, underground lakes, and savage islands.  I was also able to write fun characters such as trolls, fairies, and king’s henchmen.

2.  Is this a standalone or a series?  If it is a series, how many books will there be?

As of this moment, it is a standalone.  If there were a great deal of interest in a sequel, I would definitely consider writing one.  It might be intriguing to follow the fate of the fairies.

3.  What was your favorite scene to write?

I enjoyed writing about the Onion Run.  In the story, the fairies stage a magical race with different sorts of enchanted onions.  It was really fun to do.

4.  Can you give us a little insight into your writing process?  How you came up with the story as a whole and how much research went into the story?

Tournament of Chance was originally a short story about a girl who enters the king’s archery competition and sparks a revolution.  I ended it there, but many months later decided to lengthen it into what might be considered an epic fantasy.  Because it’s set in Medieval times, I had to do a surprising amount of research on ancient sailing ships, archery, clothing, weapons, and even food.

5.  What are you currently working on or have planned for the future?

Just today I released a historical romance novella, The Ice Captain’s Daughter, set in 1899 England.  It’s about the daughter of a wealthy ice merchant in her first London Season.  She’s looking to marry for love but an attempted kidnapping gone awry may derail her plans.

6.  Can you give us a little more insight into the world of Tournament of Chance?

Tournament of Chance is set on a world much like Earth physically, but there is magic, wizards, dragons, and other fantastic creatures.  As I said, it has a Medieval-era feeling to it, although the castles are a lot more splendid than the ones built in the Medieval era.  Destiny’s monarch, King Chance, is contemptuous of and abusive toward his subjects.  When the commoners realize his true nature, the revolution begins.

7.  If you could trade places with one character from Tournament of Chance, who would it be and why?  If you could trade places with a character from another book, who would it be and why?

Dane’s mother, Queen Mara, is independent, powerful, and has a warrior’s soul.  I’d like to be her for a little while.  In other literature, I always fancied the character of D’Artagnan from The Three Musketeers.  That wouldn’t work very well, though, because I’m female.

8.  Have you always wanted to be a writer?  When did you get your first book published?  What made you want to write?

I published my first book in 2011. I used to want to be an actor, but writing is better.  I get to play all the parts, all the time.

9. What genre do you love to write?

My favorite genre is fantasy, but I’m branching out this year to historical romance.

10.  What is your favorite book to read?

I read fantasy more frequently than anything else.  I re-read my favorites dozens of times. 

11.  Can you give us any little sneak peaks of books you are currently working on? 

Currently, I am writing another historical romance novel. It’s set in 1890 New York as well as England. Among other things, it involves a transatlantic voyage on a luxury cruise ship.  I’m doing a lot of research for it!

Originally from Southern California, S.G. Rogers has lived in Asheville, North Carolina and Laurel, Mississippi. She earned her first black belt in taekwondo from martial arts champion Billy Blanks.  Later on, she earned black belts in taekwondo and hapkido from Master Myung Kim. Currently residing in beautiful Savannah, Georgia, S.G. Rogers writes fantasy and romantic fantasy stories.  She’s owned by two hairless cats, Houdini and Nikita, and lives on an island populated by exotic birds, deer and the occasional gator.
